New product line of control units for the use in Zone 21 and Zone 22 (Dust-Ex)

R. STAHL Schaltgeräte GmbH has further developed its already proven control units type 8040 and optimised it especially for the use in hazardous areas where combustible dusts are present. The new product line 7040 is explosion protected in accordance to EN 50281-1 (IEC 61241) with the Ex-marking II 2 D IP66 T80°C and has been certified by a notified body in accordance to directive 94/9/EC (ATEX).
Explosion protection is guaranteed by the selected materials and by the robust dust-tight enclosures. In order to fulfill the demanding requirements of the EN 50281-1, R. STAHL is using the same enclosures, actuators and cable glands as for the control units type 8040 used in
Zone 1.

The differences between the new product line 7040 and the existing types 8040 are made via the build-in components. According to EN 50281-1 protection type "protection by enclosures" permits the use of non-explosion-protected industry components inside of the enclosures. Consequently the Ex contact blocks and Ex indicating lights of R: STAHL have been cost-optimised for that application. With the new industrial contact blocks type G082 this was possible by abandoning the flameproof gaps and the related pressure test, whereas the new industrial indicating lights type G010 does not need a flameproof compound.

Therefore the customer has the advantage of using cost-optimised control units with the same robust and reliable functionality as used to from Zone 1 equipment. Managers of plants with hazardous areas where combustible dusts are present – mills, malting plants, milk powder production – find with new control units type 7040 a product which is directly designated to their needs and requirements.
