A New Medium Polarity GPC Column

Polymer Laboratories, a part of Varian, has launched a new medium polarity gel permeation chromatography/size exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) column for use in polar solvents such as dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide and also solvent combinations such as tetrahydrofuran with water. These eluents are useful in GPC/SEC when analysing highly polar materials which are difficult to analyse in traditional SEC solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran. Examples of these materials include polar resins, modified polysaccharides and similar complex polar polymers. The new Polar column has a medium polarity surface and high mechanical stability. It is capable of operation in a wide range of solvents and solvent combinations, greatly enhancing the ability to analyse polar polymers that arent necessarily water soluble.
