Next-generation quality assurance
For applications involving monitoring, documentation and safeguarding of automatic sequences in production, the company Leuze offers a modular image processing system by the name of proCHECK. Depending on the application, a variety of different upgrade stages and software tools are available, which permit selective adjustment of the system to individual application requirements.
proCheck ECO, for instance, encompasses the whole range of important functions such as presence and dimension checks, pattern, contour and colour recognition, plain text reading and verification, ID and 2D code reading and printed image control. The system was developed specifically to address packaging technology and general mechanical engineering related applications, but has also proven highly successful in the automotive engineering industry. New test assignments are set up with relative simplicity using the drag & drop functionality and visualization of all parameter settings – even without prior programming knowledge. Depending on the upgrade stage, the system is capable of coordinating up to 12 asynchronous cameras. An example of asynchronous operation in this context would be for 3 cameras to be performing checking operations while a new program is being generated on a fourth camera. The system comes with integrated codes, not only newer codes such as the RSS family or PDF 417, but also the standard bar code and 2D codes such as the data matrix code. One digital and one serial interface as well as Ethernet are available as standard for communication purposes. Field bus links such as Profibus DP are also optionally offered.
A special tool has also been developed to address the special needs of the pharmaceutical industry with its high cycle speeds when filling blister packs or checking pharmaceutical codes. This tool offers comprehensive control of all product characteristics and can be optionally supplied with suitable documentation for validation in accordance with GAMP4. It also complies with stipulation 21 CFR Part 11, which manages password-protected access and manipulation-proof storage (such as Audit Trail and LOG). Used in conjunction with this tool, proCHECK offers enormous application scope, ranging from label and package control through to colour testing, defect monitoring and vignette documentation.
