Future proof in the Ex-area

New multibarrier concept offers complete galvanic isolation both between trunk lines and output circuits as well as between the four output circuits to each other

Turck has developed the most modern multibarrier concept with the MBD-…-T415/Ex. The new MBD multibarrier allows Ex i drop lines up to 120 m in length ensuring that devices which are long distances from one another can be connected to an Ex i “chicken foot”. The individual Ex-i drop lines of the multibarrier are additionally galvanically isolated from one another in order to prevent equalizing currents which result due to differences in potential. Galvanic isolation of signals in the explosion hazardous area plays a significant role for safety reasons. Complete galvanic isolation exists both between the trunk lines and the output circuits as well as between the four output circuits to each other. In addition to the enhanced EMC immunity, the complete galvanic isolation prevents future potential transfer and potential equalization currents. Thus long-term safe transmission of data is guaranteed.

The integrated short-circuit protection comes into its own if a short-circuit occurs on a fieldbus station. Only the respective output is switched off and the trunk line and the other outputs of the fieldbus segment remain operational. A channel-relevant short-circuit is indicated via a red LED inside the housing. This is intended to help the service technician to troubleshoot a malfunction in faulty drop lines.
