Perfectly controlled gripping

The new servopneumatic proportional gripper HGPPI is flexible to the very tips of its grippers – thanks to the independent positioning of the two gripper fingers. It is the ideal choice for handling tasks requiring controllable gripping forces or flexible equipping tasks involving different workpiece sizes.

Grippers play a key role in the automation of handling tasks: a Pick & Place can only exploit its strengths fully if the grippers fulfil the requirements for robustness, efficiency and process reliability. Besides proven standard, precision and micro-grippers, the new servopneumatic proportional grippers HGPPI therefore broaden the application range of Festo's handling and assembly technology. As the all-rounder among the grippers, they can position quickly, precisely and reliably: both in conventional applications with gripper fingers or as a carrier for vacuum generators – and even without a gripper changer unlike conventional grippers.

Everything under control

Large gripping force for high security: the HGPPI expertly grips the workpiece. Thanks to the integrated electronics, information about the displacement signal and the force is always available. The freely and independently positionable gripper fingers offer maximum freedom of movement – with an accuracy of ±0.1 mm. Compared with the use of electrical grippers or gripper change, the HGPPI with its compact dimensions clearly has the advantage in terms of space requirement. Another advantage: the comparatively low weight of 650 g guarantees short cycle times.

Flexible handling

Thanks to its integrated intelligence, the HGPPI can adapt quickly and easily to a variety of tasks. It distributes its strength cleverly and gets to work on equipping tasks quickly and precisely. It is also excellently equipped with gripper technology, a position controller, a displacement encoder and valves. The pressure/force regulation and the metering of the gripping force give the HGPPI an extremely high level of flexibility: workpieces can be gripped and then moved or adjusted precisely in the direction of movement of the gripper jaws. As the entire electronic system has already been integrated, it is only necessary to provide a Profibus connection, a 24 V connection and a compressed-air supply.

Intelligent control

3/2-way piezo valves are used as leak-free, highly dynamic proportional valves for generating the pressure in the individual cylinder chambers of the gripper. Three pressure sensors which sense the pressure in the cylinder chambers provide precise pressure control and so regulate the force at the same time.
Position sensing is performed by the HGPP's proven Hall sensor technology. The entire control and communication hardware has been incorporated into the gripper housing to facilitate standalone operation of the gripper, but also in order to reduce the interfaces to the pneumatic and electrical supply lines (24V) and a control signal connection for Profibus-DP.

The HGPPI is in good company ...

...at the Motek. The HGDT – a robust 3-jaw, T-slot gripper – is also being presented. Ideal for use in machine tools and perfectly equipped for heavy workpieces. Sealing air protects the gripper from dust and soluble oil in critical environments.
The new parallel gripper HGPC will be extremely cost-effective thanks to its half-shell design. The combination of hardened, sintered materials and gripper jaws with ball-bearing guides provides the maximum possible service life and process reliability, as well as an excellent repetition accuracy of 0.05 mm. And of course: optional gripping force retention and self-centring gripper jaws.
