Kontron Modular Computers presents three new high-performance CompactPCI CPU boards: one 3U and two 6U boards, each with a 2 GHz Intel® Pentium® M processor 755 or 760 (CP6011) for peak performance with passive cooling. The 3U board CP306, with directly soldered processor and memory, is designed to withstand the harshest conditions. The 6U boards combine maximum computing power with low power consumption. The CP6011 is optimized for bandwidth-intensive applications, whereas the CP6000, at ca. 300 euro less, balances price and performance. All three CPU boards feature rear I/O support, and software support is provided for Windows XP, XP Embedded and 2000, Linux, VxWorks etc. The 6U boards additionally offer Windows 2003 Server support.
The CP306 in detail
The CP306 features a high-performance 2 GHz processor with a 400 MHz front-side bus, up to 1 GB of DDR-SDRAM with a clock speed of 333 MHz and ECC (Error Correction Code) and numerous communications interfaces: on-board Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, four USB 2.0s, up to four COM interfaces, CompactFlash socket and Dual ATA/100 interface. The 855GME chipset's integrated graphics controller supplies high-performance 2D, 3D and video capabilities. The CPU is available as a single (4HP) slot or, alternatively, as a dual (8HP) slot with legacy support and a 2.5" HDD. Designed to handle the harshest of environments, the CP306 is ideal for use in industrial robots, portable data recorders or train or airplane cockpits.
The CP6000's strengths
The CP6000, with an optimized price-to-performance ratio, is equipped with an 855GME chipset, up to 2 GB of SDRAM and up to four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces – two in the front and two PICMG 2.16-compliant interfaces via the rear J3 connector – for media gateways, networks and switching applications. It additionally offers front-side VGA, USB and COM interfaces, as well as a PMC slot with PCI-X performance, an optional 2.5" HDD and CompactFlash on-board. All of these features are available simultaneously on the CP6000, thanks to the Intel 6300ESB I/O controller hub which also offers state-of-the-art I/O technology such as Serial ATA/150, USB 2.0 and 2 PCI buses. The 855GME chipset's integrated graphics controller with Intel's Extreme Graphics 2 technology produces images with resolutions of up to 2048x1536x8 bits at 60 Hz and videos in 2D/3D multimedia quality.
The CP6011 feature set
The CP6011 with an E7501 chipset and 2 GB of SDRAM with PC333 on two 200-pin SODIMM sockets is designed for use in applications requiring high performance and flexibility combined with a high integration density: VoIP, Video on Demand or telecom, datacom or medical applications. The CP6011 communicates in Ethernet networks via a Dual Gigabit PICMG 2.16-compliant interface and a front-side Fast Ethernet interface for system management or other purposes. I/O expansion is possible via two PMC slots, one offering a PIM and a PCI-X interface with up to 64 bits at 133 MHz data transfer and the other with a 64 bit/66 MHz PCI interface.
The CompactPCI bus offers enormous bandwidth especially for I/O cards with a PCI-X interface to transfer data at up to 64 bit/133 MHz. The ATI Mobility™ M graphics chip, with 4 MB of memory, provides up to 1600x1200x16bit screen resolution. Apart from the two PMC slots, Ethernet and COM, freely programmable front-side LEDs are available on the CP6011.
Both 6U CPCI CPUs can be expanded via Kontron's optional PMC cards with Ultra320 SCSI or with additional Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The CP306, CP6000 and CP6011 boards with 2 GHz Pentium® M processors are now available.
