One Control Unit for Both Synchronous and Asynchronous Drives

Servo controllers of the JetMove series made by Jetter now offer the possibility of controlling asynchronous standard motors. Compared to the combination "asynchronous plus variable speed drive", the response characteristics of the solution "asynchronous drive plus servo controller" are much better. This way, for example, the full torque will be effective over the entire speed range, even during standstill. All motion parameters have been made available in realtime in the application program, no matter, whether they apply to servo or to an asynchronous drive.

Both technologies can be handled by the user the same way. There are only differences in parametering, yet, as soon as a specific drive has been selected from the list, the system will automatically assign the basic parameters. Other than for parametering permanent-magnet excited synchronous machines, there are only two specific parameters that have to be set for positioning by means of asynchronous standard motors: the magnetizing current and the slip frequency.

As JetMove servo controllers are digital systems which have directly been integrated in the controller, unit replacement will be absolutely uncomplicated. All parameters have been stored to the controller; this way, they can, after re-start, be loaded into the new device. Being able to use the same controller for positioning both by means of synchronous and asynchronous drives does not only hold technical advantages for the user. Both storage and training will become easier as well.
