The new portal axes are based on a rigid aluminium profile. The carriage is either driven by a spindle or a toothed belt and guided by means of roller or recirculating ball bearing guides. The spindle axes excel with high positioning accuracy, feed forces and high rigidity even at changing counter-forces. They are designed for strokes of up to 3000 mm and move loads of up to 100 kg at spindle speeds of up to 3000 U/min. Spindle supports enable high spindle speeds. The standard kit provides three different sizes with recirculating ball bearing guides and various spindle pitches for application-specific configurations.
The models with toothed belt reach speeds of up to 8m/sec at stroke lengths of up to 5000 mm. Four sizes are available with roller and/or recirculating ball bearing guide.
"Identical adaptation and mounting interfaces irrespective of the guide and driving system facilitate the application of the units in a large variety of systems," says Franz Roser, Berger Lahr product manager. The motor adaptation is also designed to be universal and extremely flexible. For example, it is possible to mount either the drive or shaft outputs at both sides of the two end blocks of the toothed belt axes. Optional metal covers prevent particles from getting into the axis bodies. The units are lubricated from the outside from any of the two sides of the carriage. The toothed belt axes are available in a corrosion-resistant version. Depending on the requirements, the standard portal axes can be equipped with up to three carriages and with countershaft belt. The complete line of axes uses standard 8 mm sensors.
