High Precision USB Temperature Measurement System Based on Thermocouple
Isabellenhüttes ITS-TC is a new temperature measurement system with a thermocouple working on an USB 2.0 bus. The basis of the ITS-TC system is the inseparable connection of a special thermocouple material with the precision data logging system ISA-ASIC, also developed by Isabellenhütte.
The new system offers a better absolute accuracy than any of the conventional temperature measuring systems based on the Seebeck effect: ≤ 1K at a temperature range of - 200 to + 1200 °C (resolution ≤ 1µV / ≤ 0.05 K). Even more precise measurements are possible at lower temperatures. The sampling rate can be adjusted from 2 Hz to 10 kHz. This makes it possible to detect and record even rapidly changing temperatures. EMF measurements are carried out with internal compensation of the reference temperature.
The working temperature of the electronic device is in the range of - 30 to + 60 °C. The device works on an USB 2.0 Bus, which does also supply power. This makes it possible to connect ITS-TC system to any PC or laptop (Windows 2000 / XP). Each thermocouple has its own assigned address which allows the simultaneous operation of up to 128 units per PC / laptop.
The software included in delivery enables the user to carry out single or continuous measurements with averaging and data compression. It has an integrated logger function to evaluate data based on all common programms, e.g. Excel or MathCAD. The measured values can be shown by an integrated graphical display over time.
