NEW RANGE OF ARALDITE ADHESIVES LAUNCHED FOR AEROSPACE MARKET

Huntsman Advanced Materials today launches a new range of structural adhesives specifically designed and qualified to offer significant operational cost savings and support next generation aviation engineering, repair, maintenance and overhaul requirements.

Engineered in close co-operation with development teams at leading aircraft manufacturers, a range of new products from Huntsman’s Araldite, Epibond and Epocast portfolios are now available for use in the construction, assembly and maintenance of interior and exterior composite components on existing and new commercial aircraft.

Chris Mellings, aerospace market manager at Huntsman Advanced Materials said, “As pioneers of aerospace adhesive technology Araldite adhesives have long been at the forefront of innovation in the sector. With a proven track record, the most comprehensive portfolio of structural adhesives and a commitment to forging long-term technical partnerships, Huntsman should be the first port of call for MRO engineers looking to work with an expert industrial bonding supplier. We look forward to demonstrating the performance capabilities of our new product range and working with our customers on significant aviation engineering projects that will define the future of air travel.”

The Epibond 1590 family of adhesives has been engineered to bond a range of aircraft components. Products include Epibond 1590 A/B for use on vertical and horizontal structures and Epibond 1590-3mm, a liquid shim adhesive for gap filling. Epibond 1590 FST, which is currently awaiting qualification, demonstrates exceptionally low smoke / low burn properties and is the first product of its kind to comply with stringent international Fire, Smoke and Toxicity (FST) regulations.

Epocast 54A/B and Epocast 1633 A/B have also been approved for the repair of on-board composite components. Epocast 54 A/B is a high-strength, self-extinguishing resin laminating system designed for the impregnation of substrates used in aircraft interiors. Epocast 1633 A/B is a complementary low-density syntactic material suitable for the repair of aircraft interior structures.

In addition, Araldite 1570 A/B and Araldite 1642 are in qualification. Araldite 1570 A/B can be used to bond sound attenuation panels into cargo liners significantly reducing noise and vibration. Araldite 1642 is a new low-weight potting compound optimised for use on interior honeycomb panels, offering aircraft manufacturers 30 per cent weight savings over existing materials.

Furthermore, Huntsman’s range of industrial adhesives, syntactics and laminating resins for the MRO market are now available in new, single-use packs, designed to meet increasing demand for pre-measured quantities of industrial adhesives for commercial use.
