IP67 Access Point with approval for Ex-Zone 2

Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, Neckartenzlingen, is presenting the new BAT54-F WLAN system at SPS/IPC/DRIVES in Nuremberg (Hall 9, Booth 217). This system which meets the requirements of protection class IP67 is offered additionally in a version for hazardous environment zone 2 (BAT54-F X2) which weighs only 5 kg including the stainless steel housing. The devices which can be used as Access Point and Access Client support all the common operating modes such as bridge, point-to-multipoint or infrastructure. Further characteristics include extensive management, security and quality-of-service functions. Thanks to the robust design of the WLAN system, radio networks can also be set up under extreme ambient conditions such as those which prevail in railway traffic or the petrochemical industry.

The devices which have two radio modules with two antenna connections each and which can be mounted on the wall or on a mast are designed for a temperature range of -20 to +60 degrees Celsius. They also meet the requirements with regard to shock and vibration resistance as well as electromagnetic compatibility. The M12 connections and a redundant power supply (two 24 Volt and one 48 Volt connection) also help to ensure a high operational reliability.

The transfer rate in either 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz band as desired, is up to 108 Mbit/s per radio module. The Fast-Roaming-Function enables uninterrupted connection while switching from one radio cell to another. A wide range of antennae including a total of ten different round-beam and sector antennae ensures reliable transmission.
The WLAN system which has a RADIUS server supports all standardized encryption and authentication methods in accordance with IEEE 802.11i and 802.1x. With an integrated Firewall and IP-Router and DHCP-Server installed as standard, network segments, for example, can be separated and securely protected.

The configuration and diagnosis can take place either by means of a Browser (Web-based management), TELNET or a Windows-based software which supports Rogue-AP-Detection. The Quality of Service functions in accordance with IEEE 802.11e enable, among other things, a prioritization for Voice or Videostreams.
