The FlexyConcept significantly minimizes investment risks, often generated in relation with the implementation of automation equipment. This has been achieved by defining the following goals from the very start of the development:

• «FlexySys» software which supports FlexyConcept should be used intuitively so that laboratory staff is willing and able to work with the system. The prerequisite must be based low on a low learning threshold at the start.
• A modular structure makes it possible to adapt these solutions to changing requirements, and thus ensuring a maximized protection for the user's investment.
• The planning of personnel resources should be simplified for customers through the use of FlexySys software for all Systag equipment. This means that the employees, who have been once trained on the equipment, will be in the position to operate the different units without extra training.
• In addition to the reproducibility and precision achieved through automation, the documentation of processes should also be standardized as well as automated, if applicable, this applies particularly to any existing guidelines and regulations.
• With the goal to offer a cost-efficient automation, optimal flexibility with regard to all required or existing peripherals must be guaranteed. It is often the case that the customer already owns a variety of equipment, and from a financial point of view, it makes no sense to double investment costs. It is also a must that several devices can be controlled with a single PC. This saves space and reduces costs.
• Fast, cost-efficient and reliable support must be guaranteed on a global level in order to reduce equipment downtime and to positively influence the return of investment.

Before the development phase, all customer requirements have been carefully evaluated with regard to the individual conceptualisation of FlexySys operational software and the selection of control modules. Different test phases in which the laboratory software was used by a number of test teams revealed conclusive information that has consequently been integrate into the system. The result is a convincing software package with broad acceptance and superior quality.
