Monitoring of Anaesthetic Agents Using Photoacoustic Spectroscopy Photoacoustic Spectroscopy (PAS) is a unique technique that combines the know how of the infrared absorption technology with a highly sophisticated detection method. The infrared absorption is based on gases ability to absorb infrared light. With PAS, the amount of infrared light absorbed is measured directly, by measuring the sound energy emitted on the absorption of light. This results in PAS being an extremely stable and precise detection method.
The stability means fewer calibrations leading to a significant saving in maintenance costs. The unique use of high quality and stable condenser microphones as detectors, also gives the PAS system a very high degree of sensitivity and results in a huge dynamic measurement (approx. five orders of magnitude). The Photoacoustic Field Gas-Monitor 1412 from Innova AirTech Instruments, Ballerup, Denmark, can be used in applications in the Health Care Sector e.g. for monitoring Anaesthetic Agents.
