ProCell 5 the new laboratory unit by Glatt

You are looking for a technology to produce very fine particles of a temperature sensitive material? You want to process large or irregular formed particles? At the Powtech 2005 Glatt is introducing the ProCell – a new laboratory unit answering to your needs.

Using the unique and patented spouted bed technology of the ProCell particles are fluidized without a bottom screen and directed to the spraying nozzle. By this means it is possible to work with very low product temperatures and little material in the processing chamber. Hence temperature sensitive materials are treated very gently. Proteins, enzymes and micro-organisms have been dried in the ProCell with very little loss of activity.

The processing air velocity declines rapidly in the processing chamber of the ProCell, allowing the production of very fine particles. On the other side large particles, like catalyst carrier rings can be fluidized without using prohibitive quantities of processing air. The high air velocities in the slot ensure a very robust process, especially when coating sticky materials. Lumps that may have formed are still moved, broken down again and carried out of the processing chamber. Spray granulation, agglomeration and coating can be accomplished using the spouted bed technology of the ProCell.

Using different processing chamber inserts the ProCell 5 also allows the evaluation of fluid bed processes. The AGT 150 insert is designed for spray granulation processes. The GF 3 insert is designed for all other fluid bed processes, like agglomeration, coating, Wurster coating and drying.

All processes are continuous by means of the well proven zigzag discharge. The discharged product is sifted, using compressed air blowing up the zigzag sifter. All particles below the desired particle size are returned to the processing chamber. Alternatively the discharge can be closed and all processes are operated in batch mode.

The process air is cleaned using filters directly above the processing chamber (internal filters). Optionally the ProCell 5 can be equipped with a cyclone, allowing for external dedusting. In this case the air is finally cleaned by means of a filter in the lower part of the unit.

Asked for the main advantage of the new equipment Sebastian Pfütze, sales manager of Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH declares: "There is no second laboratory unit providing the possibility to test so many different processes and process designs."
