DRS 61 – the incremental encoder that customers can programme

Programmability by customers themselves is the strength of the new DRS 61 incremental encoder from SICK-STEGMANN. With a PC and the Programming Tool, users or system integrators can now programme any line number between 1 and 8,192 and also define the desired zero pulse width – 90° or 180°. This results in reduced stocks and greater flexibility, as it is no longer necessary to purchase or store machine- or application-specific device versions. Thus the DRS 61 is the basic device for determining angle, position, speed or acceleration in automation systems.

The DRS 61 is a member of the CoreTech family of encoders. The core of the encoder is an optical code disc on which all line numbers between 1 and 8,192 can be scanned. Differential scanning by the DRS 61's ASIC scanning element guarantees high signal quality and immunity to interference. In addition, the encoder allows assignment of the zero pulse at the press of a button while installed. This results in customer-friendly and rapid commissioning, and thus helps save time and money.

Enhanced flexibility

The programming of line numbers and the zero pulse width by users, machine constructors or system integrators has now dramatically increased the application flexibility of the DRS 61, as a single basic version can solve the most varied of tasks by means of individual programming. Whether packaging machines, medical technology, elevator or conveyor systems, robotics, crane plants, metal processing or mechanical engineering – the DRS 61 now makes the purchase and storage of individual machine-related encoder variants unnecessary. Stock-keeping is simple and more economical, and downtimes are minimised – because the DRS 61 is quickly available and programmable for every application.

Simple, speedy starts

Programming is carried out with the aid of a conventional PC or laptop with the Programming Tool, consisting of SICK-STEGMANN software and a programming cable. The software's menu guides users to the Programming dialogue box, where the line number and zero pulse width can be selected and subsequently assigned.
