With the MX213 module Bachmann closes the gap between the processor modules of the ME and MP or MPC series. The manufacturer of the M1 control system is again emphasizing his claim to design plant controls with a cost-optimised scaling of processor power in a programme-compatible way.
The concept is convincing in terms of functionality and price/performance ratio and is marked by its exceptional compactness. The module measures two bus units (110 mm) and is equipped with a power supply, an integrated CAN master and – unique in this price class – two 100Mbit Ethernet ports, which easy integration of the control into physically separate networks. This approach supports the design of solutions that have distributed automation and require a consistent separation between the machine-related and company network without the need of additional peripherals.
The computer module with integrated floating Point Unit (FPU) permits considerably higher control accuracy and opens up the field of mid-range controls. For the first time a control unit of this class is equipped with non-volatile ferro-electrical FRAMs, which guarantee maximum data security without battery backup.
Great attention has been paid to simple and standardised interfaces for the service and the storage of operational data. A USB connection is available for the connection of a broad range of peripheral components. In addition to storage media in the established PCMCIA interface Compact Flash cards can be used for storing data or software updates.
„With the MX213, functions of high-end controls come into reach of small and cheap machines“, Gabriel Schwanzer, Director of Sales & Automation at Bachmann, describes the new M1-modules. „A comparable power density has not been achieved so far by any other manufacturer.”
