Luterbach/Switzerland-based DIGITAL-LOGIC now presents the MICROSPACEPC40 (MPC40), a personal computer without cooling fan for industrial applications. The new MPC40 is based on the just recently developed smartModule855 Pentium M processor and is remarkable for its extremely high performance of 1.6 GHz and the large number of its interfaces. Equipped with a 1 Mbyte L2 cache the 1.6 GHz Pentium M shows a capability comparable with a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor. Future generations by Intel will further increase the performance. The power saving function of the Pentium M processor provides a dynamic CPU-clock adaptation to the application. In the slowest modus the CPU works with 600 MHz, so the whole system only consumes a typical power of 12 watt. The "Extreme Graphic" video controller, which is integrated in the Intel-855GME chip set, supports the Direct-X9 compatibility with a video memory of up to 64 Mbyte. The video controller has two different video outputs to control two different monitors (DVI & CRT).
Further technical features of the MPC40 are a DVI output, a SuperVideo input, up to three LAN 100/10-Base-T ports, a BT878A framegrabber, five high speed USB-V2.0- (Universal Serial Bus) Ports and a MiniPCI extension slot to plug in ISDN-, LAN-, StarFabric- or other PCI extensions. The main memory of the MPC40 may be expanded to a maximum of 512 Mbyte. Further standard interfaces are a COM interface, two IEEE-1394- (firewire) interfaces, a DVI input, a VGA-CRT connection, three stereo sound outputs (six channels), one stereo input and a SPDif digital sound output with six channels. Additionally supported functions are remote ON/OFF and an optional internal WLAN with an antenna on the back of the device.
As mass storage a 2.5"-hard disk with a storage capacity of 20 Gbyte and a DVD/CD drive are used. The hard disk is implemented rubber-cushioned and is therefore optimally protected from vibrations. Optionally, the standard hard disk is also available with an extended temperature range of 20°C to +85°C, which allows the user to run the MPC40 at a temperature range from 20°C to +50°C. In the low speed modus (600MHz) the computer may be also used at a temperature of
20°C to +70°C. For extremely rough usage there might alternatively be used a CompactFlash slot, Type 2.
The MPC40 is supplied by a voltage of 10V to 30V and is predestinated for the use in battery power supply systems. It works with operating systems like Windows 2000/XP/XP Embedded, Linux, VxWorks, RTOS, and QNX. It is the ideal solution for multimedia applications (Direct-X9 compatible), video applications, visualizations, security and surveillance systems, game panels, servers like media server, web server, WLAN etc. and high-performance computer applications.
