16 000 Hours in Continuous Operation

The demand for reliable and cost-effective cylinder pressure sensors for monitoring and controlling marine diesel engines and stationary gas engines has grown apace in recent decades. Over 2 000 Kistler cylinder pressure sensors for online monitoring have now been installed on a wide variety of engines. Some of these sensors have already been in continuous use for over three years. On marine diesels the sensors are mostly used for monitoring peak pressure and calculating power output.

Gas engine applications vary from simple knock detection to controlling gas injection. Despite the high mechanical loadings and corrosive heavy fuel oil there have been no diaphragm fatigue failures.

The robust Type 6613CA sensor with integral amplifier for continuous measurement of cylinder pressures offers outstanding longevity and constant sensitivity.

One of the most important applications of this sensor is the American gas pipeline industry, where it has already been used for monitoring for some years. One of the first users, Panhandle Energy, has already achieved service lives in excess of 16 000 hours from this sensor on its gas engines.
