Some years ago we already offered you our UV LED Hand Lamps of “UV-Inspector 365 up to 3000” family. Since then these lamps have been substantially improved by application of more powerful light-emitting diodes and have remarkably proved themselves – especially for magnetic particle inspection and penetrant testing with fluorescent inspection materials.
The most important advantages of these lamps are the low power consumption and therefore battery or accumulator feeding, very long lifetime and above all the defined UV-emission wavelength in the UV-A range (365 nm). This wavelength enables the maximum contrast between the crack indication and its background.
Why does it occur?
Through the narrow-bounded emission spectrum of UV LED there is no irradiation part, that bounds to visible range (from 400 nm) or lies within. This is the decisive advantage as compared with the metal-halogen gas-discharge lamps (for example mercury-vapour lamps) which were used in the UV lights before. The irradiation part in the visible range results in undesirable brightening and reflection, especially while testing metallic shiny, curved objects. Such reflections are not only perceived by an inspector as artifacts, they also reduce the contrast and therefore affect adversely the defect recognition.
Thereby the UV light-emitting diodes imply a significant technical improvement for the nondestructive testing!
The delivery program for the UV LED Hand Lamps of new generation extends from the UV Hand Lamp of usual size (UV Inspector 3000) over medium-sized Hand Lamp (UV Inspector 2000) to the pocket Hand Lamp (UV Inspector 365 and 380-R). Further there are hard and semi-flexible UV endoscopes, UV light guides and UV mirror probes in the program.
Sometimes one can hear critical comments about the possible hazard while working with UV irradiation. Thereto it should be pointed out, that the irradiation emitted by LEDs of our hand lamps doesn’t contain any of the most dangerous spectrum parts in UV-B or UV-C range! That is why the HELLING UV LED Hand Lamps are classified as low-hazard.
