BD Fluoroblok Insert Systems feature a blue-colored membrane, which efficiently blocks the transmission of light between 400 and 700 nm. Fluorescence originating from labeled cells or compounds in the upper chamber of the insert system will not be detected by bottom-reading fluorescence microplate readers. In contrast, cells or compounds that have migrated through the pores of the membrane are no longer shielded from the light source and can easily be detected by fluorometers after fluorescence labeling. The wide blocking range of the membrane allows the use of a variety of different fluorophores for performing assays and studies such as: chemotaxis and angiogenesis assays; tumor invasion, bacterial invasion and leukocyte extravasation assays; cell signaling, toxicity and permeability studies. In particular, the systems are compatible with high throughput applications.
