3D sensor solution 3D Profile Unit
With immediate effect, Berlin-based company Micro-Epsilon is equipping all infrared thermometers in its ‘CT Series’ on customer request with a PROFIBUS-DP interface.
The novel feature here is the miniaturisation: As with other digital interfaces from Micro-Epsilon, the compact module is plugged into the already miniature CT electronic box, either directly at the factory or by the user, and after configuration is ready for immediate use.
PROFIBUS – Process Fieldbus - is a manufacturer-independent fieldbus standard to EN 50170 for numerous applications in production automation, processes and buildings, which enables trouble-free and rapid bit-serial communication of devices from different manufacturers, without special interfaces being required. PROFIBUS-DP - DP stands for "Decentralised Peripheral" - is used in production systems for the control of sensors and actuators (slaves) by a central control unit (master).
The Micro-Epsilon CT infrared thermometers and other sensors can be integrated directly with PROFIBUS equipment and automation solutions, without converters. This reduces cabling costs and installation and commissioning and simplifies set up of parameters. In this way, company-specific solutions can be realised more easily and more economically.
Measured temperature values, alarms and status descriptions of the measuring points and sensor can be recalled and measurement parameters, such as emissions levels, transmission levels, signal shaping, measurement temperature ranges and alarm limits can be changed. The GSD file included in the supplied items enables consistent customisation by the user. Connection is provided by a SUB-D connector or DIN coupler with integral sensor power supply.
In addition to the PROFIBUS-DP module, Micro-Epsilon also offers plug-in RS232, RS485, CANopen and USB interfaces for infrared thermometers in the CT Series.
The infrared thermometers are used in wide-ranging fields in the processing industry, for non-contact temperature measurement of products, machines or tools and are being increasingly regarded by OEMs as an indispensable part of machine sensor systems.
