Coating thickness measurement of paint, varnish and lacquers on metal, wood and plastic substrates

ElektroPhysik combines wide-band transducers and digital ultrasonic signal processing to break the limits to traditional ultrasonic procedures.

Designed for quick, precise and non-destructive coating thickness measurement, the QuintSonic gauge of the German manufacturer ElektroPhysik enables to measure and separate up to three layers in just one operation. Typical applications: measurement of paint, varnish and lacquers on metal, wood, glass, ceramics, plastic and other substrates.

Due to the improved technologies, even extremely thin neighbouring coatings can be separated from each other. In addition, the gauge enables precise wall thickness measurement at high-resolution through the coating. Measuring range for steel wall thickness: 100µm...8mm; for plastic materials: 200µm...3mm).

For measurement, just place the probe on the object to be measured and read coating thickness from display. The gauge provides statistics including number of readings, min, max, standard deviation and histogram. For very complex applications, a special PC software program “Q-Soft” can be provided for visualisation of ultrasonic echo graphs and interpretation help to determine the exact nature of multi-layer systems.

Measuring range: 10µm...500µm
Tolerance:
± (2 µm+ 3% of reading) for coatings < 100 µm
± (2 µm+ 2% of reading) for coatings > 100 µm

Data memory: stores up to 10.000 readings in a maximum of 500 group memories.

The small and handy gauge (weighs only 300g!) proved to be a most suitable tool for quality assurance. Additional features: if mains operated, the storage battery is recharged automatically.
