Beam Detectors

Beam detectors are designed to protect large open spaces such as atria, museums, churches and warehouses.

The XP95 Beam Detector:

  • is loop-powered
  • is compatible with XP95 and Discovery
  • has automatic drift compensation
  • has four selectable alarm levels
  • has remote interface
  • has simple wiring
  • has simple alignment

The XP95 Beam Detector is made up of three main parts: the transmitter, which projects a beam of infra-red light, the receiver, which registers the light and produces an electrical signal, and the interface, which processes the signal and generates alarm or fault signals.

The transmitter and receiver are designed to be fitted on opposite walls approximately 300mm to 600mm below the ceiling. They can protect areas up to 100m long and 15m wide.

If it is difficult to fit the transmitter and the receiver to opposite walls, they can also be fitted in retro mode, ie, adjacent to each other on the same wall. One or more reflectors need to be fitted to the opposite wall to reflect the beam from the transmitter to the receiver. The XP95 Beam Detector is loop-powered, removing the need for a separate power supply. This minimises installation time and cost.

The detector also features automatic drift compensation to help minimise the risk of unwanted alarms due to such factors as dust accumulation. A fault signal is generated when the drift compensation reaches a pre-set limit.

The XP95 Beam Detector can be set to one of four alarm levels on commissioning to suit the environment in which the detector is installed.

The Intelligent Reflective Beam Detector differs from a traditional beam detector in that it is a single unit comprising a transmitter, a receiver and control electronics. The transmitter projects a cone-shaped beam of modulated infra-red light to a reflector (prism). The reflector returns the beam to the detector where the receiver measures the amount of light received and converts it to a signal for processing in the control electronics.

The beam detector is available in two versions: a single reflector model for distances of 50m and a four-reflector unit for distances of 100m.

The Intelligent Reflective Beam detector:

  • is loop-powered
  • is compatible with XP95 and Discovery
  • incorporates a short-circuit isolator
  • has automatic drift compensation
  • has an automatic reset function following clearance of an alarm or fault condition
