Expanded CVS series offers colour detection, sorting, shape inspection and character recognition
The success story of the Colour Vision Sensor continues. Originally with the CVS1 and CVS2 sensors for large-area colour detection, the new CVS3 and CVS4 have meanwhile expanded the concept of image-processing automation sensors with further areas of use. At the same time, the original CVS1 and CVS2 devices have become even more user-friendly.
The development of colour vision to clever vision is in full swing in the CVS series from SICK. Thus the newly developed CVS3 and CVS4 open up completely new areas of use for the series.CVS3 – focused on corners and edges
Building on the algorithms for area-based colour detection, the CVS3 offers the possibility of making assembly or packaging processes, for example, more efficient and less liable to interference. The sensor can detect shapes, sizes or orientation. Further areas of application include checking the presence of printing, or detecting damage or dirt. In addition to the standard CVS3, with an operating range of between 90 mm and 150 mm, a short-range version for 30 mm to 40 mm is also available.CVS4 – detects numbers and characters
Whether dates, times or batch numbers – the CVS4, with its integrated OCR evaluation software, detects them all. 60 characters on up to six lines and in up to four formats, e.g. two dates and two times, are reliably detected. In addition, a total of 57 different characters can be taught-in via the serial interface. A variety of optics versions permits character detection from operating distances of between 30 mm and 150 mm. Moreover, the CVS4 is always up-to-date: the sensor can, for example, automatically increase a serial batch number via its encoder input.
The same applies for its internal clock, which ensures that at midnight the date changes to that of the next day.CVS1 Easy – automated colour selection, simpler colour detection
Simple operation and optimised teach-in have made the CVS1 Easy a self-explanatory sensor. The automatic colour selection is confirmed via a scroll menu, and the number of parameters to be set has been considerably reduced. Thus the device can now be operated as easily as an opto-sensor. As an elementary device for uncritical applications, with its area-based colour detection and long ranges the CVS1 Easy offers the important benefits of vision technology.CVS2 – simplified colour sorting
Operation of the CVS2 colour sorter has also been simplified. Colour selection also takes place via scrolling; more complex task-dependent parameterisation is now menu-guided, whereby all the essential parameters are automatically requested. Demanding sorting tasks, in particular, can thus be handled even more reliably.
