A Spring Loaded Loss of Resistance Syringe for Epidural Use

The AutoDetect Syringe by Goldshield Hospital Europe is an automatic loss of resistance (LOR) syringe, which permits automatic detection of the epidural and peritoneal cavities. A coaxial compression spring under 20kPa tension is released when the needle attached to the syringe reaches the correct anatomical position. The syringe plunger is automatically depressed by the spring giving a visual confirmation to the clinician. This automatic device therefore frees both hands to manipulate the needle through the tissues in one smooth movement without requiring frequent stops to attempt to depress the syringe manually.
