New brass metric cable glands Series 8160 from R. STAHL Schaltgeräte GmbH
The already familiar, time-proven cable glands of the 8161 Series made of moulded plastic have been certified for use on housings with type of protection Increased Safety. The new brass metric cable glands of Series 8160 extend the range of R. STAHL cable glands. They are suitable for use in hazardous areas of Zones 1 and 2 and in areas subject to the hazard of dust explosion in Zones 21 and 22. Thread versions M12 to M63 are available. Overall, it is possible to use them for cables with diameters from 4 to 48 mm. Each gland features a very broad cable diameter range. This is achieved with one single seal per gland size.
Consequently, it is not necessary to convert the gland and modify the seal or exchange it. The new series of glands also includes multiple glands with threads M20 to M40 and a special seal for use of AsiBUS cables, with thread M20.
Dependent on version, it is possible to clamp up to 7 cables with a diameter of 5 to 7 mm or 8 cables with a diameter of 5 to 6 mm.
Compliance with the requirements for IP 66 and IP 68 guarantees high tightness. The series of glands complies with the requirements of ATEX Directive 94/9/EC. These glands are suitable for all applications occurring in practice owing to the broad ambient temperature extending from -40 °C to +75 °C.
One other advantage of this new series is that it has an identical design to that of the glands of Series 8161. This means that only one assembly tool is required for the brass and plastic glands. In addition, there is no restriction in cable diameter range for either brass or plastic version. Once again, virtually all seals can be used for brass and plastic glands. The brass glands of Series 8160 with earthing cones are available for use in areas in which measures for compliance with the EMC requirements are important.
