The platform for robot specialists

Robotrain – the name of the first mobile and flexible training cell for industrial robotics. Thanks to the joint development between KUKA Roboter GmbH and Festo Didactic, training in matters robotics is no longer just all about theory. The exclusive use of industrial components and easily exchangeable application plates ensure practice-related training by means of the orange KUKA robots and silver Festo Didactic stations.

A modular training concept – as you would expect from the leading supplier of industrial vocational and further training, Robotrain cells can be easily combined or integrated into CIM systems from Festo Didactic. Training with Robotrain is based on industrial practice and uses the KR3 robot system from KUKA, the market leader for industrial robotics. The KR3 robot is specially designed for applications involving small loads and reduced space requirements. Thanks to its perfect harmonisation with the KUKA control concept, the KR3 uses identical hardware and software interfaces and the same programming languages as all other KUKA robots weighing from 6 to 500 kg. Apart from the preassembled sample applications for Robotrain, trainees and trainers can also add their own research and training applications and as such explore new areas of application for robotics.

Flexible application

Robotrain consists of a ready for connection KUKA KR3 robot cell. Readily exchangeable application plates ensure flexibility in vocational and further training. The Festo application plate comprises a drilling unit and polishing device. This enables the robot to perform various surface machining tasks on a simple workpiece. The application plate is secured by pins such as to ensure a start-up of the generated programs without renewed Teach-in following an exchange. Both compressed air and power supply are integrated into the cell and consequently nothing stands in the way of your own application ideas.

The user can change from the Festo application to the KUKA application with a minimum of effort – a 3D worktable with preconfigured paths. The application consists of a pin exchange system and a cube magazine, which illustrates the object of the coordinate system. Included in the accessories is an external tool which simulates deburring, bonding or welding processes – guided either by the robot or permanently installed in the process.

Technical introduction

Included in the package is a technical introduction by KUKA, which leaves no questions unanswered in matters operation, programming or troubleshooting with Robotrain. For professionals, KUKA also offers the option of a certificate as a KUKA certified robot trainer. This certificate authorises holders to offer their own KUKA certified courses and includes an annual software and training documentation update.
