Extension of electron beam welded current sensing resistor family

Isabellenhütte has extended the resistance range of both the BVS and BVE low-ohmic SMD current sensing resistors and has added to this product family with its latest versions of the BVR and BRS resistors. All parts in these ranges are made of a sandwich of either Cu – Manganin® – Cu or Cu – Aluchrome – Cu composite material. With resistance values of <1mOhm, the BVS and BVE are being used in high current applications, even above 100A.

Precision resistor type BVS (size 3920) has been extended to a resistance value of 4mOhm and can now be used in temperature ranges above 170°C. The guaranteed drift is still <0.5%.

Due to its special structure, the BRS has been designed for resistance values of up to 10mOhm with a nominal power rating of 2 Watt.

The BVR device has been developed for automotive applications that use DCB and IMS substrates requiring constant temperature cycles between –40 and +170°C below nominal load. The design of the resistor reduces shear stress and the four-terminal connections allow TC values of <50ppm/C.

All of the four SMD current sensing resistors of the BVx family cover a resistance range of 0.2 to 10mOhm, with power loss dissipation up to 5 Watt (BVE) as well as continuous currents of up to 100A.

If the designer needs to reduce his power dissipation on his substrate the BVS and BVE devices can be spot welded in punched grids or bus bars. Four-terminal connections can be realized by the geometry of punched grids or bus bar.

All of the components are surface mount and, covered with an anti-tarnishing film, are delivered in tape and reel. They are packed in a sealed and dry nitrogen filled housing and therefore can be stored without problems, keeping their good solderability over a long period.
