Weidmüller is extending its range of WeiCoS products (Weidmüller Connection System) by adding the WeiCoS flying lead connector to the program. The modular, pluggable connection system has been specially designed for applications in the railway industry, in marine engineering, process engineering as well as for mechanical and systems engineering. In these sectors it is important to be able to disconnect or assemble prefabricated functional units quickly. The WeiCoS flying lead connector is a pluggable system for use as panel feed-through, for direct assembly or for mounting rail applications. The modular and versatile functional units offer both economic and technical advantages. As well as reducing the time required for mounting and final assembly, the also cut back costly downtimes. When utilising the WeiCoS flying lead connector, the user simply plugs the modules together – and can replace them just as easily.
Weidmüller has developed various locking systems to secure the flying lead connector: screw on to the mounting plate or a cabinet wall, a simple tool-free snap-on system for the mounting plate or cabinet wall as well as a snap-on system for TS 15 or TS 35 top-hat mounting rails. A spacer protects against the plug-in connection breaking open when mounting onto mounting plates. A cover protects the contact points against external contamination in applications where contact seldom needs to be made. If required, each pole can be fitted with a clip when snapping-on to a mounting plate or panel wall. Prefabricated coupling blocks can be supplied with the required method of locking.
The plug-in contacts are externally sprung, which means the mechanical and electrical functions are kept separate. This feature also ensures top mechanical stability. A calotte – a half-spherical shaped indentation in the contact – is an additional design feature defining the contact point. This ensures that the plug-in system guarantees defined contact safety, 100 percent vibration resistance and high current ratings. Depending on the model, the WeiCos flying lead connector is suitable for rapid and vibration-resistant connection with flexible wires in sizes from 0.13 to 4mm_ and 2.5mm_ with or without ferrules with plastic collars (AWG 26â¦12). The high contact force of the tension clamp system guarantees that the wire is securely connected. The wire connection has been designed as a TOP system: wire insertion and spring operation are carried out parallel to one another.
Current ratings for the terminals – including the 16-pole plug-in connector – is 24 A, the rated voltage is 690 V (to UL 1977: 25A and 600V). Safety against finger touch contact in accordance with DIN EN 50274 and DIN EN 60529 (fingers and backs of hands safety in accordance with VDE 0106, Part 100 (VBG 4) and BGVA2) is guaranteed in full. WeiCoS flying lead connector plugs are safe from finger contact even when not connected. The combined model with coupling has also been designed with finger touch safety in mind.
WeiCoS flying lead connectors are made of the insulation material WEMID. WEMID is a special thermoplastic from Weidmüller, which displays an enhanced continuous operating temperature of 120 °C (PA 66: 100 °C), while at the same time exhibiting improved fire resistance qualities – flammability class VO (PA 66: V2) in accordance with UL 94.
WeiCoS flying lead connectors can also be coded. They are equipped with a lateral locking device and strain relief. Pluggable, fully insulated cross-connections from the Z-Series ensure time is saved when 'bridging' connections. The pluggable system, WeiCoS flying lead connector, can be fitted with large, clearly visible and easily readable standard markers. The extensive range of identification markers can easily be read – even when the connectors are plugged. That makes servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting so much easier.
Various models of the WeiCoS flying lead connector are available as well as with an optional integrated end plate. An extensive range of accessories round off the meticulously planned "WeiCoS" concept. Various accessory sets are available for panel feed-through applications, for direct mounting or for snapping onto mounting rails.
