Centri is a sampling platform for the extraction and enrichment of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds from solid, liquid and gaseous samples, prior to GC–MS analysis. The techniques available on Centri are solid-phase microextraction (SPME), headspace, high-capacity sorptive extraction using Hisorb-probes and analysis of sorbent-packed thermal desorption tubes.

An electrically cooled focusing trap enables analytes to be repeatedly desorbed into smaller and smaller volumes of gas before injection into the GC instrument. This concentrates compounds of interest and enhances sensitivity and detection limits.
