Multi-Threat Smart Fire Alarm

A smart algorithm within a recently launched fire alarm from Panasonic allows detection of smoke, heat and carbon monoxide (CO) at the same time. It has been designed for applications such as theaters with artificial smoke generators, or factories where oil mist may be present.

The alarm detects smoke using an infrared LED and a photo diode with two lenses, while a thermistor detects heat and the CO sensor is a chemical type. Because it only triggers when smoke, heat and carbon monoxide are detected, the model 4402 promises high reliability in fire detection. Gerard Figols, European Product Manager, said, “This unit offers dependable detection and suits challenging environments where conventional fire alarm systems would trigger unnecessarily. It is a valuable addition to our product lineup.”
