Physik Instrumente (PI) offers Piline piezo ultrasonic linear drives at many different integration levels, so that these compact, light-weight drives can easily be adapted to any particular application. Examples range from semi-conductor fabrication, through quality assurance and optical inspection to biotechnology, metrology and medical engineering. Isis Optronics, for example, uses the drive in a new type of epidermal scanner, where it performs high-speed, very precise positioning tasks for optical interferometry. The Skindex scanner, based on OCT technology (Optical Coherence Tomography), allows non-invasive, reliable examination of the tissue on and under the skin surface.
