DSM Computer sponsored the Team Fast Forest e.V. from the Deggendorf Technology Institute that at the Formula Student 2013 competition achieved fourth place in the FSE (Formula Student Electric) group and eighth place in the overall placing.
As its contribution to the success of the Fast Forest Team, DSM Computer provided the NanoServer N1-GM45 embedded system and the D1 industrial display with a 38 cm (15 inch) diagonal screen. The robust industrial computer used for the fast acquisition, evaluation and read-out of relevant vehicle data is installed in the support car that accompanies the "Jenny 5" racing car.
The NanoServer N1-GM45 is based on the Intel GM45 / ICH9ME chipset and the Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor with 2.25 GHz clock rate. The 79 mm slim-line computer is installed in a solid industrial housing. A base cover allows direct access to the Mini PCI Express slot, the Compact Flash socket and the hard disk.
The Formula Student Germany is an international competition for students that since 2006 has been held annually by Formula Student Germany e.V. under the patronage of the VDI (Association of German Engineers). 115 teams from 33 nations competed this year. The students met at the end of July for five days at the Hockenheimring race track to match their self-constructed racing cars. The fledging engineers proved their knowledge in disciplines such as vehicle acceleration, endurance, fuel/energy efficiency, design and financial planning.
To determine the best vehicle prototype, a jury composed of experts from the motor sport, automotive and component supply industry evaluated in the static disciplines the design, cost and business plan of each team. In addition, the students proved on the race track in various dynamic disciplines how their self-built vehicles ran in practice.
