TVIPS introduces the 16 bit TemCam-series, F216 (4 megapixels), F416 (16 megapixels) and F816 (64 megapixels), as a new generation of TEM cameras based on CMOS architecture with active pixel sensor. These cameras are coupled with fiber optics to a P43 scintillator. The sensor pixel size of 15.6 µm results in a sensor size of: 32×32 mm2, 64×64 mm2 and 128×128 mm2 and in a huge dynamic range (10000:1). Subarea readout is possible in1024×1024 pixel steps at 10.4 MHz per 1024 pixel channel.
Two different image acquisition modes are available: Non Destructive Readout (NDR) mode for high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) imaging and Rolling Shutter (RS) mode for fast readout. The NDR mode shows an impressive SNR up to 25:1. Single electron events can be easily observed at voltages from 300 kV down to 8 kV, resulting in the use of the TemCam-Series for applications like cryo microscopy or investigation of beam-sensitive materials under low dose conditions.
Even at Nyquist frequency the modulation transfer function of 5% is sufficiently to resolve contrast at high frequencies, demonstrating the superior resolution. In RS mode, the TemCam-series provide 8.5 fps at 2k×1k, 4k×1k and 8k×1k formats. 4.5 fps can be reached at 2k×2k, 4k×2k and 8k×2k formats at 100% duty cycle. Due to the CMOS design, no blooming effects or smearing artifacts at oversaturation can be observed. This is of special interest when recording diffraction patterns or spectroscopy in material science applications.
