"Signal Averaging" is utilized in manifold applications, where the demand on resolution and accuracy cannot be reached due to random noise and poor signal-noise ratio (SNR). Multiple oversampling and averaging dramatically improves the SNR for repetitive signals. Coherently the systems resolution enhances and the dynamic range of input stages improves.

SaturnFastScan – Advantage

Freely scalable, from single shot up to 1 mill. scans can be averaged on 28 or more channels synchronously at a time, 100 MSample/s each. The 1 GB/channel XXL memory enables SaturnFastScan for long acquisition times at high sample frequencies at a maximum period of 1.28 sec. As data processing is performed in parallelized hardware, the results of averaging are available as soon as measuring is completed. Thereby in advantage to most common signal averaging systems, the length of observable phenomena is independent on the number of averages.

SaturnFastScan – Concept

The SaturnFastScan measurement system contains a single highly accurate reference clock source, to perform jitter free and synchronous averaging measurements on up to 28 channels simultaneously. Either slope or pulse trigger, system-wide consistent or channel selective, is available. Multiple inputs and outputs for synchronization of external components via TTL or LWL signals extend the trigger facilities. Freely configurable sample rates between 1 MSample/s and 100 MSample/s for the overall input range of +/-100 mV to 100 V establishes a great range of application for the SaturnFastScan. The arbitrarily precision tuning of the input range ensures perfect resolution for any amplitude in this extremely wide input range, either differential or single-ended setups may be used, the total analog bandwidth of > 80MHz, due to the Nyquist criteria, is way beyond limitation. Moreover the switchable input impedance of either 50 Ohm or 1 MOhm in combination with alternative AC or DC coupling makes SaturnFastScan as versatile as a common digital sample scope and with AMO's parallelized signal averaging feature still a powerful measurement system for very special applications. Digital marker channels and synchronous high-speed analog outputs are currently under development and will be available soon.
