The In Tune laser system for the LSM 710 laser scanning microscope from Carl Zeiss permits free selection of the laser lines in the range from 488 nm to 640 nm for fluorescence excitation. This enables cell biologists, scientists performing basic research in biology, medicine and biophysics as well as physiologists to perform fluorescence measurements that were not possible in the past. For example, this applies to the determination of the lifetime of fluorescence dyes or fluorescent proteins that provides information about processes in intact cells. The system is a source of excitation for the FLIM technology (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy).
