Addi-Data has further developed the Live DVD, which is based on open source programs, accompanying the Embedded Linux-based MSX-Box real-time PAC system. Firstly: the drivers for the latest Addi-Data boards have been implemented so that the user can easily program his application under Linux using the free development tools on the Live DVD. Secondly: the high-performance, free software package Scilab
© INRIA-ENPC has been integrated for the direct retrieval and convenient graphic representation of measurements. The user can thus dispense with expensive, licence-based software packages and reduce acquisition costs for series.
The MSX-Box real-time PAC system is used for measurement and control tasks in real-time and comprises 2 main parts: the hardware, which is based on the PCI backplane, and the Live DVD with free development tools for programming applications. This live DVD is based on the Eclipse development environment and the Debian distribution. If the user uses Addi-Data boards under Linux he can now write his applications with the Live DVD: the drivers for the latest PCI, PCI-Express and CompactPCI boards are now available on the Live DVD, both for the user and kernel mode. He can adapt the drivers to his application all the way down to the source code. Even if the user does not use the MSX-Box as a PAC system for his measurement and control tasks, but another PC-based solution, he can still write programs for Addi-Data boards under Linux with the Live DVD.
The second new feature is the open source retrieval and display program Scilab which is now available on the Live DVD and offers the user a high-performance tool. It complements the already numerous free development tools which are designed for the development of applications. With Scilab © INRIA-ENPC, calculations, statistics, digital signal processing, simulation of dynamic systems and image data processing are possible.
