Bosch and the Trailer-Telematics provider Cargobull Telematics, are strengthening their working relationship, and for the first time they had a joint stand at the Telematics trade show in Greven in January. Cargobull Telematics operates a web-based fleet management platform where logistic service providers can monitor their trailers. Additionally, in co-operation with Bosch Mobile Security Services, the company can also offer its customers alarm management, as well as a European wide intervention for trailers and other mobile objects. It is thanks to this collaboration, for example, that 15 stolen trailers could be detected last year. Logistic providers can check current data such as position, tyre pressure, cooling temperature, doors or speed of their vehicles, at all times via the internet platform.
Trailers transmit this information to the system via a Trailer Control Unit, developed by Blaupunkt. If pre-defined parameters are violated, e.g. the vehicle leaves a specific area, an alarm signal, together with the current position of the vehicle is transmitted to the employees of the Bosch Communication Centre security monitoring centres. Afterwards the employees of the monitoring centres inform the customer, the regional responsible intervention partner or alert the police and rescue workers. In this way the customer has the possibility to minimise potential costs as far as possible or even to exclude them completely. This is the case not only for the operating costs (if the tyre pressure is too low) but also for losses due to cargo theft or an accident. The telematic system can be installed in new vehicles and can be retrofitted in the existing transport fleet or vehicles of other manufacturers.
