MoRoS from INSYS MICROELECTRONICS combines modem, router and 4-port-switch functions in a compact DIN rail housing measuring 70 x 110 x 75 mm. MoRoS can communicate via the analog or digital telephone network and via GSM (UMTS/EDGE/GPRS). The communication device facili-tates the setup of customized, cost-efficient remote maintenance and remote control solutions for several Ethernet compatible components. Up to four net-work nodes, such as PLCs or HMI systems, can be connected to the integrated switch for remote contact. The nodes can also exchange data among each oth-er. INSYS also offers MoRoS PRO for applications with strict safety require-ments: the device features an integrated firewall, which can be easily configured via a web interface, and supports VPN (Virtual Private Network) for protected data exchange.
MoRoS can accept incoming connections and establish outgoing connections (dial-in and dial-out functionality). The router establishes TCP/IP connections via NAT. Static rules can be defined for incoming connection requests (port forwarding). This enables status requests and remote configuration from a con-trol center. If required, a PLC within the local network can establish a connec-tion with a service center in order to send alarms or status reports.
