Thermo Scientific LTQ XL with Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD): Offered for the first time on a linear ion trap mass spectrometer, ETD is a new large-peptide fragmentation technique that dramatically improves the accuracy of protein identification and the ability to pinpoint and identify important changes in the structure of proteins, such as phosphorylation. The unique combination of ETD with the LTQ XLs large ion storage capacity and ultrafast cycle times significantly advances ion fragmentation technology, providing peptide structural information complementary to that obtained by conventional dissociation methods in the same LC/MS(n) experiment.
