“Precise and realtime-capable”

With their new BML magnetic linear encoder system Balluff adds an additional sensing principle to their product line. After intensive development, a product has resulted with extraordinary accuracy and resolution.

The highly precise, BML incremental magnetic linear encoder system from Balluff consists of a sensing head and a magnetically encoded magnetic tape. The sensing head glides over the magnetized tape, which is encoded with alternating polarity, at a distance of up to two millimeters. This distance is possible even at high accuracy and realtime capability. Since the measuring system operates magnetically, it is highly insensitive to contamination from oils or dust. The period changes are available on the sensor output as digital square wave RS422 signals, 10…30 V or as sinusoidal analog signals of 1 V. Resolution is as fine as 1 µm, with a system accuracy of ±10 µm. The permissible traverse speed is up to 10 m/s.

Fully tested in Balluff’s own certified EMC Laboratory, this is a noise-immune system with extraordinary performance features which make it suitable for use in drive technology as well as assembly and handling applications, or in conveying and packaging machinery.
