Cool solution: Cold Store Curtain ensures safety at arctic temperatures

The robust IP67 housing, and the heating integrated therein, make C2000 and C4000 Micro safety light curtains and the M2000 multiple light beam safety device into Cold Store Curtains for arctic operating temperatures. They now allow more flexible, ergonomic and process-oriented protection of access and hazardous points-of-operation in deep-freeze areas than is possible with separating protective equipment, such as lattices or fencing.

The Cold Store Curtain devices are based on the oft-proven IP67 housing. This is a protective housing made of PMMA plastic with V4A stainless steel end caps. The mate-rials of the seamless housing are highly resistant and abrasion-proof, minimising the risk of contamination. The pressure-equalisation membranes integrated in the end caps prevent the formation of condensation within the housing, as well as any misting up of the tube that could be caused by temperature fluctuations, e.g. when a Cold Store Cur-tain is located near an entrance lock. The IP67 housing has been augmented with inte-grated heating for deep-freeze applications – keeping the actual safety sensor at a frost-free operating temperature. Whereby the air trapped between the sensor and the hous-ing acts as an effective insulator.

Arctic-proof alternative to protective fencing

Depending on the task, protective field heights of between 150 mm and 1,200 mm for the safety light curtains, or 2-, 3- and 4-beam systems for the multiple light beam safety device are available. Thus the Cold Store Curtains are a process-oriented and service-friendly alternative to separating protective equipment because, particularly at tem-peratures of -25°C and lower, it is of great advantage when machine operators or serv-icing and maintenance staff can gain access to the relevant parts of the plant as quickly and easily as possible. Moreover, the Cold Store Curtains are considerably more stable, eliminating costs for the replacement of, for example, protective lattices, etc. brought about by friction.

Food producers, the meat industry, dairies and logistics need cool safety solu-tions

Refrigeration and deep-freeze plants for storage, production and distribution are princi-pally found in the food industry, in meat and milk processing, and in special logistical areas. Normally there are a variety of temperature zones in such plants: -25° to -28°C in high-bay warehouses; up to -18°C in incoming goods, intralogistical material flows or in, say, ready-meal production; and temperatures of between +6°C and -6°C in other plant areas. Cleaning processes can make further demands on sensors during the production of ready-meals, depending on the user or food producer. The Cold Store Curtains meet these demands and offer flexible protection solutions for access and hazardous points-of-operation in plants with arctic operating temperatures.
