Fibre-Optic Safety System Extended

Contact-free machine safety applications up to safety category 4, now available with Atex approval for zone 0 – new transition elements for one-way light grid.

Turck’s fibre-optic safety system PICO-GUARD has received the Atex approval for zone 0. As a result, the fibre-optic safety solution, which was developed by Turck’s system partner Banner, is also applicable in explosion periled areas. PICO-GUARD replaces mechanical interlock switches up to the highest safety category 4. The system consists of a controller which, combined with the correspondent housing, is applicable up to zone 2 i.e. zone 22 (dust), fibre-optic interlock switches of different types, as well as a fibre-optic conductors. Hence electric cabling in the machine section or in hazardous areas is no longer necessary.

Additionally to the Atex approval, new components enlarge the PICO-GUARD-System: This way PICO-GUARDGrid allows mono- or multi-ray safety light grids to be build, which still assure perfect protection at a height of 15 meters. New stainless steel models of already existing components now offer mechanical engineers and asset builders elegant additional safety protection and door monitoring in explosion periled areas.
