Modular safety system accessible for DeviceNet and CANopen

The modular samos® safety system from Wieland Electric is supplemented by two bus coupling modules for the DeviceNet and CANopen fieldbuses. The gateways are used for direct coupling to the PLC controls. They provide the machine controls with the safety information from samos® and support fast troubleshooting of the safety system. The status of safety facilities (such as emergency stop buttons, protective doors, light curtains, position switches, magnetic switches, two-hand switches) can be diagnosed and visualized.

The two new modules provide gateways for PROFIBUS DP, CANopen and DeviceNet that are not safety-related. Four outputs are available to activate samos®. The modules are wired through pluggable connectors; time-consuming additional wiring is avoided. The 22.5 mm wide modules can be snapped onto DIN rails.

The modular samos® safety system includes linkable function modules; it is suitable for simple and complex safety tasks. It can monitor up to 50 two-channel safety sensors. A module can monitor two safety circuits with all the required functions. The system meets the requirements up to category 4 according to EN 954-1 or SIL 3 according to EN 61508.
It is used in mechanical and system engineering in the packaging industry, in plastics molding, woodworking and construction material processing as well as for robots, transport and construction machines, and combustion and elevator systems.
