Conventional color sensors often lack the sensitivity to discriminate dark hues or poorly reflecting surfaces. Now Balluff has introduced the new BFS 27K color sensor using RGB technique, which also takes brightness into account. This is necessary for example when objects need to be reliably detected in spite of perforations or structured surfaces having areas of different reflectivity. The setup and operation is easy and practical: the three sensor outputs can be set and configured directly on the sensor using a teach-in procedure. Up to 10 tolerance levels can be defined and various evaluation algorithms selected.
The procedure is even easier using the matching software, where up to 20 reference values can be defined. This eliminates changeover time when the sensing task changes.Typical areas of application for these rugged sensors, which operate at switching frequencies of up to 1.5 kHz, include quality control such as automotive interiors as well as assembly, handling and packaging technology.
