Waldkirch, April 2006 Technology without compromises is the philosophy behind the new DS40 distance sensor. The device is designed for scanning distances between 200 mm and 5,000 mm. In technological terms, the DS40 operates by measuring the time-of-flight of light, because this offers considerably higher immunity to ambient light and a very precise background suppression compared to scanning with single-pixel technology. With its functional scope and price, the DS40 is intended for applications in which cost awareness is important not compromises.Compact plastic housing, red light laser diode, light time-of-flight measurement, teach-in and a switching output the core functions are complete and concentrated in the DS40. As the DS40 also offers the entire technological and application expertise of SICKs distance sensors, the device makes no compromises regarding accuracy and availability. The wide scanning distance range, simple operation and, above all, the very high immunity to ambient light and precise background suppression make the DS40 a universally utilisable distance sensor in, for example, automobile construction or handling and warehousing systems. This not only applies for basic applications, but also for demanding tasks such as the reliable detection of dark or critical surfaces, and small objects. The DS40 offers top technology, tightly calculated, and a unique price/performance relationship.
