Air Start Units MSU 200/400

Since 1995 Rheinmetall Landsysteme supplies the most powerful gas turbine driven Air Start Units (ASUs) worldwide. The powerful output of the MSU 200 and MSU 400 models covers the demand of all aircraft up to Boing 777 and Airbus A380. The heart of the unit is a gas turbine power head manufactured by Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems. This power head is essentially the same as the power head used by the Boing 737 Auxiliary Power Unit. All other major components including the gearbox, FADEC and the fuel control unit have been developed by RLS.

Rheinmetall Landsysteme’s Air Start Units meet all customer requirements for professional ramp operation. The MSU 200/400 are more powerful than previous turbine powered ASUs (204 ppm respectively 408 ppm at 56 psia). The MSU 200/400 are of modular design, robust, environmentally friendly and easy to operate. They require minimal service and no scheduled maintenance.

Fielded units in service have proven their functionality and reliability as a back-up energy source for starting aircraft main engines and for onboard air packs. Unlimited full power operation of an aircraft’s air conditioning system is possible.

Under various environmental and operating conditions, and missions, Rheinmetall Landsysteme’s ASUs have proven their cost effectiveness at airports worldwide.

More than 500 units are currently in service operating in about 30 countries on five continents.
