A key feature of magnetic beads is that the process can be easily controlled by attaching and detaching a magnet to/from a tip wall. Furthermore, due to various types of coating materials on the bead surface, the magnetic particles are able to specifically capture a targeted substance by utilizing the large surface area of the bead. In 1995 Precision System Science (PSS) has invented the fully automated Magtration Technology to manipulate magnetic beads precisely. Until now PSS has sold more than 2,500 automated nucleic acid extractors worldwide.
As one of latest products PSS now introduces the fully automated Magtration System 12GC, a small bench top unit for the parallel isolation of nucleic acids from up to 12 samples within a short period of time (30–45 minutes, depending on the protocol). This system combines the advantages of the Magtration Technology with a very robust and user friendly instrument, leading to true walk away isolation of highly pure nucleic acids (DNA, RNA, Plasmid). The main benefits of the Magtration System 12GC are:
By eliminating most sources of variation during processing, the Magtration System 12GC provides highly reproducible data from run to run – perfect suited to large research projects with low to medium daily throughput.
