Heat Precisely Where It Is Needed

Custom-built emitters offer the advantage of being able to apply heat in a targeted manner, so that energy is used efficiently, time is saved and production costs are reduced.
Plastic work pieces require heat at many stages of their manufacture. However, it is not always necessary to heat the whole component. The targeted heating of rivets, edges and corners present a real challenge, as does the even heating of the surfaces of thin threads, ropes and cables. A typical example of a solution to such a process problem is a tube oven containing built-in infrared emitters, which direct the heat directly onto the thin materials passing through the oven. Such a system allows efficient heating of continuous materials in continuous processes.

In such ovens, plastic ropes are fixed, wires are sheathed with plastic or tubes are shrunk onto electrical screw connections as insulating sheaths. Polyurethane tubes can also be tempered successfully and quickly by infrared heat after extruding, in contrast to alternative chemical processes or lengthy hot air treatments.

Compared with conventional methods many production steps are significantly simplified by infrared heating, while space can be saved and production speeds significantly increased.
Infrared radiation offers non-contact heating at high efficiency and, as energy transfer is highly concentrated, the heating unit can be fitted into a production line compactly in a space-saving manner.

Infrared emitters are heating sources which can be exactly matched to the product to be heated and the manufacturing stage. Long, straight emitters heat large surfaces just as well as curved or small emitters heat thin edges or very small surfaces. Clever emitter arrangements and flexible designs also allow heating process to be carried out on complex geometry work pieces and, because infrared emitters can be switched on and off in seconds, there are savings in both energy and production costs.

As a result, infrared heating technology is already taking over from conventional techniques such as warm air heating and contact heating in many industrial sectors. Heating and drying systems can be seamlessly integrated, and often retrofitted, into production processes.

Heraeus Noblelight is continuously developing new, custom-built, high power, fast response emitters for complex processes.
