Rheinmetall Landsysteme supplies the most powerful gas turbine driven air start units worldwide. The powerful output of the MSU family covers the demand of all aircraft up to B777 powered by PW400, GE90 and RR Trent and the forthcoming A380.
The heart of the unit is a gas turbine power head manufactured by Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems. This power head is a derivate of the one used in the APS 2000/2001, the APU in service since 1991 with Boing 737 and has been selected as the APU for the Boing 717.
Rheinmetall Landsysteme has developed all other major components as the gearbox, FACED and the fuel control. They meet all customer requirements for professional ramp operation.
Compared with other air start units, the MSU 200/400 is more powerful (204 ppm at 56 psia / 408 ppm at 56 psia), of robust design, environmentally friendly, and easy to operate, service and maintain.
All field units have proven their function and reliability as back-up starters for aircraft main engines, and as power source for the onboard air packs. Unlimited full power operation of an aircraft's air conditioning system (ECS) is possible.
Under various conditions and during various missions, Rheinmetall Landsysteme's Air Start Units have proven their versatility at airports worldwide. More than 350 units have been sold to 20 countries on 4 continents.
